Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Locals in Destin flock to HarborWalk Village, the city's lively entertainment center. It's the perfect waterfront spot for fun in the heart of Destin Harbor. There's something for everyone here, from watersports and fishing excursions to live music, fireworks, and an exciting events calendar.

Excellent restaurants abound in this popular area. One is Harbor Docks, a longtime seafood mainstay serving dishes like fried fish and sushi to diners in the deck seating area. Walk five minutes west and you’ll find Boshamps Seafood and Oyster House, another local favorite on Destin Harbor. Boshamps is a prime example of Gulf-to-table Southern cuisine. Louisiana Lagniappe is on the far east end of the harbor; true to its name, the restaurant serves Louisiana-style seafood with dishes like fried jumbo shrimp and jambalaya.

Grab a cocktail and dip your toes in the sand at The Back Porch, where locals relax in beach chairs before settling in for grilled seafood and incredible oysters on the restaurant’s massive porch, which offers some of the best seaside views in the area.

For excellent shopping, visit Destin Commons, the Emerald Coast's favorite shopping, dining, and entertainment destination. The monthly farmers market occurs the last Sunday of each month; it highlights local produce amid vibrant murals in this energetic, open-air destination. High-end retailers, great restaurants, and a movie theater offer plenty to do, and the splash pad in the center of town is the perfect place to cool off in the summer sunshine. View the stunning works of local artists throughout this iconic shopping destination, where there truly is something for everyone.

Things to Do

There's always something fun happening in Destin, where locals lounge on the snow-white sands of Henderson Beach, a stunning state park dedicated to preserving the area’s natural beauty. Beaches here are wide and secluded, perfect for fishing or swimming in the warm Gulf waters. For those looking for a more active adventure, a hiking trail winds through the sand dunes of Henderson Beach, some of which measure thirty feet tall. From here, you'll experience stunning sea views and the natural wonder of this beautiful area.

While not technically an island, Crab Island, a raised sandbar, is wildly popular with tourists. As its renown has spread via national outlets like HGTV, people have flocked to Crab Island for its signature Emerald Green waters, which are augmented by floating bars that make the sandbar a great party destination. Most people take boats to Crab Island because the currents are too strong to swim there. The water depth is about two to four feet, and it is recommended you rent a private charter or pontoon if planning to stay the day.

After a relaxing weekend at the beach, it's time to turn to the lively Destin Seafood Festival and Fishing Rodeo, one of Destin's most celebrated traditions. Enjoy the best local seafood from area chefs on opening weekend, which kicks off a month of competitive fishing for all ages that has earned Destin the title of World's Luckiest Fishing Village. Enjoy the thrills at Big Kahuna's Waterpark on warm summer days, the largest waterpark on the Emerald Coast. The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation brings in national, regional, and local artists for its ever-popular spring and summer concert series, where locals and tourists gather for fun outdoor concerts with incredible live music.
