At 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, Santa arrives on Main Street at Destin Commons in a holiday parade. He then lights the center's 50-foot Christmas tree, and a fireworks finale follows. Exactly a week later, HarborWalk Village lights its Grande Christmas Tree beside Destin Harbor. Six days after that, on December 3, the City of Destin holds its 40th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Destin Community Center on Stahlman Avenue.
So the season works its way toward the water. It opens inland, moves to the harbor, then to the City's own campus a few blocks away. By the weekend of December 12 and 13, the City, HarborWalk Village and the Destin History & Fishing Museum all run events on or right off Harbor Boulevard within roughly 34 hours of each other. If you live here, that weekend is the one to plan around, and the November dates make more sense once you see they all lead up to it.
Three Trees in Under Two Weeks
All three tree lightings fall within 13 days, and each has its own setting and timing:
- Destin Commons, Friday, November 20, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Arts & Entertainment presents the evening. Before Santa's 7:00 p.m. parade there's free face painting, free photos with Rudolph and Frosty, and a holiday photo booth along Main Street. The tree lights after the parade, and fireworks close the night.
- HarborWalk Village, Friday, November 27. The day after Thanksgiving, the Grande Christmas Tree lights up to live caroling, with hot cocoa. The listing gives no start time for the lighting itself. A Black Friday Sip & Shop follows from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with discounts from local merchants and wine.
- City of Destin, Thursday, December 3, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The City's 40th tree lighting takes place at the Destin Community Center, 101 Stahlman Ave. The City lists Santa and entertainment, plus a donation drive for nonperishable food.
The Destin Commons lighting is the biggest show of the three, with a parade and fireworks, but it's also the one farthest from the harbor. Every event after it pulls the calendar closer to the waterfront.
Santa Moves to the Harbor the Next Day
At HarborWalk, the tree lighting kicks off a full month of weekend programming. On Saturday, November 28, Santa arrives on the harbor at 12:30 p.m. with a parade of elves. Photos with Santa and live holiday performances on stage follow from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. After that, HarborWalk lists Santa visits on three December weekends: December 5–6, 13–14 and 19–20. The listing doesn't give hours for those visits, so check with HarborWalk Village before you go.
Sunday, December 6, is the busiest day at HarborWalk before the big parade weekend:
- Santa Paws: Bark Street Market, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It's a holiday market where you can shop and stroll with your dog.
- Chanukah Celebration, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It's an evening event at HarborWalk Village.
There's also an earlier set of November events that has nothing to do with Christmas but uses the same harbor and City spaces. On Saturday, November 7, the City's 28th Annual Pinfish Classic is a free catch-and-release fishing event for kids 14 and under. It starts at 7:00 a.m. from the dock behind AJ's at 116 Harbor Blvd. Kids bring a rod and reel, the City supplies bait, and there are awards for the largest fish, the smallest fish and the most fish caught. Two days later, on November 9, HarborWalk's Blues, Brews & BBQ brings in more than 20 waterfront spots serving barbecue, craft beer and cocktails, with John Hart and Tyler Mac playing live blues. The City's 20th Annual Holiday Craft Show follows on November 13 and 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
If you remember September from our post on Destin's seafood festival and fishing rodeo, the pattern will look familiar. Destin's big community weekends tend to happen around the harbor, and December is no different.
December 12 and 13 Put Everything on Harbor Boulevard
Three organizers, two parades, a two-day market and a fireworks show all fit into about 34 hours, mostly along a short stretch of US 98.
| When | Event | Where | Organizer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat., Dec. 12, 10:00 a.m. | 42nd Annual Christmas Parade | Starts at Destin Methodist Church, 200 Beach Dr., ends at Stahlman Ave. | City of Destin |
| Sat.–Sun., Dec. 12–13, noon to 8:00 p.m. | Mistletoe Market | HarborWalk Village | HarborWalk Village |
| Sun., Dec. 13, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. | 40th Annual Holiday on the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade | Destin Harbor, between Harry T's and Harbor Docks | Destin History & Fishing Museum |
| Sun., Dec. 13, evening | Fireworks on the Destin Harbor | Destin Harbor | Listed by HarborWalk Village |
On Saturday morning, the City's Christmas Parade starts at Destin Methodist Church and goes down Beach Drive. It then heads west along Harbor Boulevard to Stahlman Avenue, and the City asks spectators to watch from the north side of Harbor Boulevard. The parade ends on Stahlman Avenue, the same street as the Community Center where the City lit its tree nine days earlier. As of late October, the City's parade listing doesn't include a road-closure schedule.
HarborWalk's Mistletoe Market runs from noon to 8:00 p.m. both days, with local vendors. If you go to the Saturday parade and come back Sunday for the boats, the market is open on both visits.
Sunday evening brings the 40th Annual Holiday on the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade. Decorated boats parade through Destin Harbor from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and the museum says you can watch from anywhere along the harbor between Harry T's and Harbor Docks. That's 30 minutes longer than last year's museum listing, which ran from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on December 14, 2025. HarborWalk lists fireworks over the harbor the same night, in a 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. window.
The museum's 2026 page doesn't yet give entry or registration terms for boat owners. Last year's $35 entry fee, which included a Captains Party pass for the registrant and one guest, applied to 2025 and may change. If you plan to enter a boat, watch the museum's page for the 2026 details.
Two Milestones Arrive in the Same Season
Both of Destin's big community-run December traditions hit their 40th year in 2026. The City's tree lighting on Stahlman Avenue is the 40th Annual. The museum's boat parade is also the 40th Annual. The City's Christmas Parade is two years older, at 42.
So the newest events in this season are the commercial ones, and the oldest are run by the City and the museum. Destin Commons has the tallest tree and the biggest opening night, and HarborWalk fills nearly every December weekend. Even so, the season still peaks with the City's 42nd Christmas Parade and the museum's 40th boat parade, held a day apart.
After the Boats, Only Two Dates Remain
When the harbor clears on December 13, the calendar slows down quickly. HarborWalk holds Santa's Departure Send-Off on Sunday, December 20, from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m., the same weekend as the last scheduled Santa visits.
New Year's Eve is a Thursday this year, and HarborWalk splits it into two events. Noon Year's Eve runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a family countdown. The evening New Year's Eve Celebration runs from 7:00 to 11:59 p.m. overlooking Destin Harbor, and HarborWalk also lists fireworks over the harbor that night. The listing doesn't give a launch time for the fireworks, so check HarborWalk Village closer to the date.
If you're planning visits from family or friends, you can find the harbor's warm-weather schedule in our resident's guide to Destin's summer nights. For what's still free when you park near the water, see our post on Destin's free beach parking.
At Marie Babin, we keep up with Destin's harbor calendar because it shapes how our clients and their guests spend December, from the best viewing stretch for the boat parade to the quieter weeknights in between.
